Thankful for Little Blessings

I had to write this post. The blessings in my life this week have just counted so high I just needed to share.

If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. I will actually start with today – it was the biggest that stuck with me.  – Matthew 6:31-33 (The Message)

I got a text this morning that invited me to a girls night craft party at my church. I had heard about it but didn’t know if I wanted to go. Well, when I got personally invited I wanted to go. There was one problem. I had like no money. I was getting paid but I wasn’t sure because of little hours this week and big payments last week.

So I just took a deep breath and said – I am going. Money will work out. I got my paycheck and started looking at the stub from last month. My boss had under paid me by $8 the month before so that was added to my check. The cost of this craft was $7. I about cried thinking about the blessing that was.

Then there was gas. The bane of my existence. The up and down over priced necessity. On my way home I decided to zip over to the station I know is usually cheapest. $3.14 a gallon. About 6-20 cents cheaper than anywhere else right now! Blessing!

So a few hours later I take off for church. I decided to take the highway since it was pitch black out already (Hello, Daylight Savings!) to avoid deer or other things. I was going along at about 75mph and what do you know. In an instant I went from almost hitting a deer to praising the Lord that it turned at the last second. BIG Blessing. No car damage, safe me, safe deer.

I greatly enjoyed my time and felt truly blessed to be around some great friendly woman tonight. I was thankful the whole night I was able to go and decided to go. Its hard for me to decide to do social things like that. The more I do it though the more I am comfortable. Also the more cool people I get to know 🙂

Some other things that happened I was thankful for or blessed by were – Having just enough money to cover all I needed last week, friends calling me a blessing for offering to help, being healthy finally when I needed to be, having time off to help other people (even if its difficult not having much work), getting to take my 7 year old cousin to Build a Bear for her first time (pure JOY!), rain (because it makes the darkness have purpose), time with my Sister (before that baby niece of mine comes!), and a God who loves me so much he gives me all I need every day, hour, minute, and second of my life!

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. – Phillipians 4:19

Don’t look past the little everyday things that happen for you. They will make your life feel the most full and blessed. So start looking for the small things. The things people look past. Count it all as joy.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1: 2-5
